Parable of the Talents

Why do we have talents? We are given talents to enrich our own lives and bless the lives of others. But these talents don’t come without hard work and perseverance!

Today we are going to give you “talents” and it is your job to “multiply those talents” so that we can bless others this holiday season. Your talents will start as $5.00. It is your job to use that money (doing projects and using your talents) to multiply that money to the best of your ability.

On December 10th, you will personally give an accounting to the bishop, give back the original $5.00, and any other money you have earned. On December 17th, we will go shopping and pick out gifts/toys/clothes for families who are in need this Christmas. We will then come back to the church and wrap the gifts. We know this will be an awesome, rewarding experience for all those who participate!

A few things:

* You may pool your money together with one or two others and carry out a project together.
* Please don’t use any of your own money for this project. We want you to be creative and multiply your $5.00. Then when you get more, you can use that sum to carry out another project and so on.
* Remember: This is NOT your money. This $5.00 is the Lords money we are entrusting to you and you must be accountable for. If you don’t do anything with it, you can simply give it back at the end.

Some ideas to multiply your talents: (will need to advertise and market your idea)
Teach a skill to young children. (soccer clinic, dance class, cooking class)
Use the $5 to buy ingredients and make treats to sell.
Sell hot chocolate early in the morning outside of stores the day after Thanksgiving.
Use the $5 to buy supplies for a babysitting day, so the parents can go Christmas shopping.
Advertise your services for hire: play a musical instrument at an event; housekeeping; raking leaves; wrapping Christmas presents; etc.
Use the supplies to make something (a scarf, a bag) and sell.
BE CREATIVE!!!
